Federal housing grants for homelessness mitigation

Texas Public Radio reports that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded San Antonio $14.5 million and 47 housing vouchers to help mitigate homelessness. The funds will go to organizations including SA Hope Center, Haven for Hope, SAMMinistries and Opportunity Home to provide housing navigation, rental assistance and outreach programs (www.tpr.org). SARAH’s executive director Katie Vela said the money will also cover administrative costs of permanent supportive housing and help families secure documentation for leases (www.tpr.org). Mayor Ron Nirenberg noted that the resources will help hundreds of families break cycles of housing insecurity (www.tpr.org).
